The species of sloths Choloepus hoffmanni (2 fingers) and Bradypus variegatus (3 fingers) of the wildlife of Costa Rica have been declared as national symbols. Highlighting its importance, and representation of this animal for Costa Rica, and in turn, help preserve its habitat.

With this declaration, the sloth bear joins animals such as the Yigüirro, the White-tailed Deer and the Manatee as the national symbol animals.
