Rincón de la Vieja Volcano
The Rincón de la Vieja volcano is a complex stratovolcano located in Costa Rica, located in the northwest of the country, 23 km from the city of Liberia. It has a height of 1895 meters above sea level. Rincón de la Vieja is one of the active and beautiful volcanoes in Costa Rica. One of its main characteristics is the presence of a large number of secondary activities (solfataras, fumaroles, mud volcanoes, hot springs and others), some of which are used for the production of geothermal energy.
It is regularly active, its last eruption occurred on June 10, 2022. Its main immediate danger is the formation of lahars (mudflows), whose danger increases during the rainy season.
